They left the bull pen separately and met up at O'Malley's, a cop bar. They just settled around a table Provenza stuck with two fingers of Jack Daniel’s, Tao ordered scotch, Sanchez and Gabriel ordered bottled beer and of course Flynn ordered ginger ale.
Provenza sat back and plowed ahead like always, "Let's not pussyfoot around here, there's obviously a snitch in Major Crimes and since we are supposed to be the best detectives on the force between the five of us we should be able to ferret him out."
"Ferret?" Flynn raised an eyebrow.
"Bite me. You know what I mean."
Flynn began, "That woman has pulled my balls out of the fire too many times for me to turn on her and Provenza's right alongside of me."
"Gabriel, you have a bone with her, she suspended you and you still think she betrayed you on that."
"I'm no snitch. Anyway I'm her favorite. She's done nothing but help my career. I screwed myself; beating a witness to find that little girl. She was right, I got what I deserved. I crossed the line. I still think it is Commander Taylor. He'd sell his own mother to get ahead.”
Provenza sipped his drink, "Taylor will run tattling to get ahead, he'll kiss ass, but he's not vindictive."
"What about Buzz? He keeps to himself. He gets pissed about her messing up his car."
Provenza swirled his drink, "We'll leave him on the list of suspects. But, I can't see Buzz doing it. He is still young and an idealist. There have been times, like with Gabriel’s misstep, when I had him turn off the cameras that he could have given me up when asked, but didn’t, I did it myself."
"The M.E. knows what happens in house, what about him?" Gabriel asked.
"There were two different M.E.'s during some of these cases so I’d rule that out, Sanchez you’re awfully quiet."
Provenza stared over his glass at Sanchez hunched over his beer starting to speak, "Someone is betraying her and therefore betraying us. It's not Gabriel; they tried too hard at the beginning of this with those subpoenas to make us think it was him. No. Provenza and Flynn are old school they'd never betray one of their own. Toa has too much honor to go behind our backs because an attack on her is an attack on us all," he paused and looked levelly at each one. "It's Pope. He is carrying a vendetta. He brought her here for Major Case but I think his marriage was falling apart so he thought he would pick up with Chief Johnson where he left off. I think when Fritz swept her off her feet and married her he's been on a slow burn."
Toa spoke up for the first time,"“Then she got put up for Chief of Police when he was overlooked. I'm with Julio on this. We've had people murdered for less. He's out to murder her career while to her face he's all 'I'm trying to save you.'"
Provenza raised a hand and made a circle with it around the table toward the waitress for another round.
"So we keep watch on Pope and get our proof."
"While keeping an eye on Buzz," Toa added.
"We have to break this fast, guys. I can’t take Taylor taking over Major Case again. During the suspensions after that debacle with Provenza’s gun he became the little dictator."
