Pottermore

Yes one more post about Pottermore, though this will be my last until they add something more, everything under a cut for those few who have not yet been spoiled and don't wish to be.

Yes...I am apparently a Gryffindor *shrugs shoulders* I'm very much not a Gryff but if they say so lol.
I don't have a shot of my wand cause it went down when I got it so just the info and a tiny pic.

WAND
Length: 14 1/2 in
Wood: Ebony
Core: Unicorn
Flexibility: Unyielding
Wood
This jet-black wand wood has an impressive appearance and reputation, being highly suited to all manner of combative magic, and to Transfiguration. Ebony is happiest in the hand of those with the courage to be themselves. Frequently non-conformist, highly individual or comfortable with the status of outsider, ebony wand owners have been found both among the ranks of the Order of the Phoenix and among the Death Eaters. In my experience the ebony wand’s perfect match is one who will hold fast to his or her beliefs, no matter what the external pressure, and will not be swayed lightly from their purpose.
Core
Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.
Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may 'die' and need replacing.
Length & Flexibility
In my experience, longer wands might suit taller wizards, but they tend to be drawn to bigger personalities, and those of a more spacious and dramatic style of magic.
Wand flexibility or rigidity denotes the degree of adaptability and willingness to change possessed by the wand-and-owner pair - although, again, this factor ought not to be considered separately from the wand wood, core and length, nor of the owner’s life experience and style of magic, all of which will combine to make the wand in question unique.
Owly

I named him Camalus after the Celtic God of the Sky & War (Not really since we can't but in my head that is his name)
Overall View of Pottermore
It took me several hours to go through all the chapters, collect everything, buy everything, and I feel as though I took my time going through it. I did not read the book along with it though, I may still go back and do that, but I'm not sure how much that would add to the experience. Overall I was disappointed in pottermore.
While some of the additional information was interesting it was just lacking overall. I am of course taking into account the fact this is only a beta test of it and I'm quite sure the experience will change drastically once goes fully public hopefully including music and some more interactions within the scenes.
The wand picking process was really fascinating. I found it pretty accurate and interesting. Now the sorting process feels a bit of a crap shoot for me. I mean I received the question. Black or White? which...yeah wth? So while I'm not like omg my world is ending cause I didn't get the right house, I'm disappointed in the sorting questions as a whole though it probably fits in with the age group pottermore is really aimed at.
As for potions I didn't find it nearly as difficult as everyone else seemed to. The only real problem I've had is with the liquids being a pain to handle, though I found gently leaning them over the edge of the cauldron allows for better control. The time doesn't bother me as much as it does some people, but they may have shortened times since the longest brew time I have come upon yet it 100 minutes. I have come across a couple of bugs which cause the potion to reset instead of allowing you to complete it.
The practice spells seem interesting, since dueling is still down I'm not sure how much the practice spells will function like dueling ones. I found equal functionality between the keyboard and the mouse, and that some spells seem to be more sensitive to how close to the letter you click than others.
So at this point I have bought everything. Found everything. Played the games. I am working on brewing at least one of every potion. Once I do that, I doubt I will be back until more is added, dueling is back up, or it goes public.
/massive review over(can you tell I have beta experience? Too bad Pottermore doesn't have anywhere you can actually put a real report instead of those little mini feedback's)

Date: 2011-09-11 05:29 am (UTC)I really enjoyed the wand picking process too, though the sorting questions seemed sort of weak. I got the right house, but still...

Date: 2011-09-11 05:56 am (UTC)I just with dueling was up!! I was having problems with spells at first, and then as soon as I figured out how to do it, and I think I'm getting good at it, but dammit, there's nothing to do with it. I think it will be a lot more fun once it's up.
I also don't understand how some people already have thousands of points when you can only make 5pt. per potion and each takes close to 2hrs.
Oh well, I just hope it gets better when it goes live for everyone.
