Landcom Breakdown

So I actually just dropped 4 landcoms...I'm torn between feeling proud of myself and feeling really guilty. I've just been insanely overwhelmed lately so it needed to be done. So that takes me to having 7.

fantasyverse Which I am a complete fail of a team mod, but I really like the com so hopefully now that I've cut back I can be decent. Plus I may be getting a co-mod soon which will be amazing.

farscape_land It's rather slow, and still new so I'll hang on here.

ncis_verse Another com I am a fail team mod, hopefully again I'll be able to keep up better.

stargateland It's going under a complete restructure. I've been kinda meh this round but I have hopes for the restructure.

starkid_land A newer com, very slow, like a challenge a month slow lol. So it's not much of a drain.

tvrealm I really enjoy this com, it's one of my bigger time consumers, but I enjoy it so yeah.

hogwartsishome This is the big killer, but it also my biggest enjoyment. I love being involved in it, I even applied for some mod spots. So it's my biggest love atm.


So yeah, there I am 4 coms lighter, still feeling guilty, but also calmer and a bit relieved.

Sorry crimeland, castleland, bigbang_land, & fringeverse I enjoyed being a member and might be able to return again in the future.

I think we suffer from having recruited a lot off-lj. So at least 1/3 of our plays... aren't ACTIVE on lj. And even lots of the ones that are in lots of landcomms just aren't talking. We all kind of feel like fail!mods but there are just... no comments. We really thought this whole cage match would get people excited but so far, nothing.

Yeah that makes it hard, I know I haven't made it to any of the rewatches or anything so I haven't been much help. And in the past couple weeks I've been all panic depressed completely lost so I completely missed the cage match set up LOL.

I am not even gonna lie, I'm pretty quiet in most of my LCs. I try to be more active and stuff in FSL because I'm modding a team, but my natural default state is to just get shit done and then chill.

It caries for me I really try to be all OMG FLAIL but with so many it just doesn't happen.

I think summer/August is generally a slow time for things - IDK, I'm guessing.

It's also very hard with a show that's been off the air for so long. I'm thrilled there's as much interest in Farscapeland as there is. :D

Me toooo. I do feel bad though because virkatjol threw EVERYTHING INTO THIS, because she does not do anything halfway, and I know she's feeling the stress of it being so inactive. Probably moreso because she can't even play. You take away her ability to spam with people that will reply back and she has no idea what to do with herself. I keep offering to switch with her next phase and let her lead a team, but it's her baby and she wants to keep control over it. I just think she has this impression that no one cares, because on other comms there is lots of FLAIL and SPAM and EXCITEMENT and not so much on FSL. We barely even get comments on results posts now. :/

And I am like the opposite of her when it comes to commenting on lj, so I'm not even saying I"m not part of the problem. Hell, I'm doing good if I remember to reply to comments on my own journal, much less spamming in a community.

It's hard trying to play if you are/were/swapped-as mod (notice my quiet place at Team SG-1 this phase?).

TBH, if she's comparing FSL to places like tvrealm - she shouldn't. That place is multi-fandom, so there's always new blood and excitement. When a land comm is based on one fandom - especially a fandom that isn't producing new episodes - it's not going to have the level of activity as others.

SGL is only recently had no new episodes. It's actually one of the major reasons we're staying with 3 teams vs. the 4 we were thinking we needed. We figured the fandom will soon shrink (sadly), since it's not airing any longer.

FSL has inspired me to re-watch Farscape!!! Unfortunately, this summer hasn't been conducive to me doing that yet - but I have purchased the DVDs. CREATING THE COMM WAS NOT IN VAIN - we're just quiet fans I guess.

I KNOW! & I meant to join in, but things got nuts. Now I'm behind and have a hard time watching things out of order. I haven't seen Farscape since it aired and REALLY WANT TO RE-WATCH IT IN ORDER.

To give you an idea of how incredibly slow I am at "my method" of rewatching - I started a Stargate re-watch in July 2008. I'm currently in season 5

Yeah it's actually more active then some I've been in, so I mean it just depends. If your want a massive com it takes a lot. But I find a lot of times you can run a nice small one and it can be tons of fun.

I know some mods what they do so they can play is that they donate their points to whichever team has the lowest points that challenge. That way they can still be part of the FLAILLLLL

Yeah she actually does that, too! (Cause ummm we basically took EVERYTHING EVER FROM YOUUU when making the comm).

I think this is where the fact that none of us had been in more than 2 landcomms ever, and had never modded, comes into play. We've already had one person threaten to leave because we were too slow/not enough talk to keep them interested, and a few other people mentioned the lack of activity as a negative, so we kind of scrambled to try and find something that would involve more people.

Perspective in one show vs multifandom is good to be reminded of, though.

Can't wait to see how stargateland is going to pan out with the restructure. I'm just sad at that the most popular Team names in voting seem to be the ones I find boring XD They should go for LULZ team names!

Dropping landcomms ain't fun, but being a part of too many landcomms can mean you end up neglecting them all, so don't feel guilty :)

I'm trying to tread water with my land comms, too. I went on mod-hiatus @ stargateland and wound up team mod in 2 other places (/fail)

I think I'm not the normal land comm member b/c I tend to be mostly interested in the challenges - although I tend to participate more lately when they're quick and easy. IDK what's going on with me.

My motto is: NO NEW LAND COMMS and NO NEW MODDING STUFF. If I can do that, I may only have to drop one land comm. *facepalm*

Yeah I've put in apps to mod some stuff for HiH but idk if I'll get either of them. But I also want to make a shop for HiH and join the quidditch team next round so yeah it's just crazy. But I really am already feeling calmer just dropping those 4.

But yeah NO NEW COMS, though there haven't been any lately that I have wanted to join so that helps.
